Sancha de Daidogei is a street performance event held every autumn. It features numerous performances that take place throughout Sangen-jaya. Many people come to spend the day enjoying street performances in various parts of the town.
Held in conjunction with Hagi City (Yamaguchi Prefecture) and Aizuwakamatsu City (Fukushima Prefecture), this two-day autumn festival takes place in the land famously connected to Yoshida Shoin. Its colorful program includes a parade of the key samurai of the late Edo period and their militia. Visitors can enjoy an atmosphere reminiscent of the late Edo and early Meiji periods.
This is an annual festival, held every autumn. Setagaya Ekimae-dori Street turns into a pedestrian zone to hold a variety of fun activities and events, including a mini “boroichi” flea market, rakugo comic storytelling, variety shows, and street concerts. The Setagaya Boroichi fair is a popular Setagaya event that is nationally famous as one of Japan’s largest flea markets. It is held each year on four days: December 15th-16th and January 15th-16th. With a history stretching back more than 440 years, it is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. It boasts some 700 street stalls and is visited by more than 200,000 people a day.
During this two-day autumn festival, the Gotokuji neighborhood turns into Okinawa. It is complete with authentic eisa dancing, live performances by Okinawan artists, comedy shows, and booths selling Okinawan specialties. It is a time to eat, drink, and enjoy a laid-back tropical atmosphere.
This festival provides an opportunity to rediscover the tastes and fun of a local shopping street. The Yamashita shopping street is lined with shops offering autumn dishes made with seasonal ingredients. In addition to delicious foods, there is a stage for saxophone and jazz guitar performances and dancing. It is a popular autumn festival for the enjoyment of fall flavors and music.
Each fall, this two-day festival fills Shimo-takaido’s streets with music. Let yourself be captivated by its diverse program consisting of neighborhood concerts, brass ensemble performances, street-corner sessions, and a classical music night.
